More than just a powdery fruit, it is possibly the most favorite fruit flavor of Peruvians. Not many people consume the fruit by itself in its natural state. Most of the time it is made into juice or added into ice cream. Either way, I knew I had to try this fruit I heard so much about when I got to Peru.

Lucuma Fruit - Lima, Peru

I would describe the taste and texture of Lúcuma to be neutral and powdery. It is not really sweet and nor is it bitter. It has a mild pleasant taste and the texture is similar to powdered sugar.

When mixed with ice cream, this fruit really adds great flavor. Lúcuma ice cream is quite possibly the best tasting ice cream I have tasted so far, aside from mint chocolate chip. I generally do not consume much dairy, however, I made an exception during my time in Peru as I thought that flavor of ice cream tasted amazing.

I highly recommend that you try Lúcuma if you visit Peru.
